I also need to do a mention for the lovely Ali from Craft Matters - who I actually met in the flesh yesterday, hurrah! We've exchanged a set of her pretty hairclips (a present for K) for one of my Art Rolls - pictures here on her blog. Very lazy of me just to link, I know, but it's time to make lunch. I'm having a very laid-back day today after yesterday's party/party/party and am just going to finish off a friend's gift for her dh tonight. Other than that, no plans beyond eating and playing trains. Sounds like a good day off to me!

Tired
It's all go, it really is. Between bugs and enrolments and zillions of cakes I seem to have forgotten the meaning of the word "stop" - which is why my body finally rebelled last Friday and gave me a delightful 24-hr sick bug. Lovely. And on Monday both K and I slept until lunchtime - almost twelve hours for me and a staggering 17 for her - meaning we woke up about 20mins before preschool started and the day consisted of nothing more than food, telly and cuddles. Thankfully this has meant the mounting RSI had a little time to recede and I'm trying to take things one day at a time.
Still, things are moving on. I've now crocheted the insane number of 105 cakes with current orders standing at 78 more to do. I hate the Royal Mail with a passion as the local post office is now displaying a last posting date of 5th December for international mail in time for Christmas, rather than the 10th Dec as the website has it. This has meant I've had to bump all US and European orders up the list in order to get them shipped in time. As it stands I may well have to leave any very local orders right till the last minute and hand-deliver. NOT what I had in mind for the few days before Xmas. On the bright side, I got my first sale via Team Goon this evening - how exciting is that!
A restock is slowly appearing, too - K's preschool sessions are the perfect time to get the machine out and crack on with those; I spent an inordinate amount of time pressing and pinning on Tuesday and about a quarter of the Out And About Books are within a few minute's worth of finishing. Hopefully I can get the rest to the same stage on Monday and restock those next week. I need a big cutting and pinning session for Art Rolls as well. The chances of getting anything new prototyped and into the shop are looking slimmer by the minute. NOT that I'm complaining to have so much business and interest in my stuff - not at all!! it's just taken me completely by surprise (as have many things recently, it has to be said).
Since I don't have any great photos of new stuff at the moment (everything is at the components stage), have a nice pic of K practicing her sewing.
This probably sounds like a rather grumpy post but I'm just tired and confuddled with not enough hours in the day, that's all (well - to be fair I do DETEST the Royal Mail right now!). I'm looking forward to a nice lunch out with the gorgeous Mr T, his lovely mum and the ever-sharp and pretty K tomorrow, and what will probably be a very expensive and very giddy night out in Manchester with the boys :P on Saturday. So it's not all bad by any means!
Oh, I must just mention Savor once again - I have gorgeousness in my bathroom in the form of Kir Royale whipped soap and three delicious new bars. Yum!

New Fabrics
Here are the new fabrics for Out And About Books and Art Rolls. Poor K was bouncing off the walls, having not been able to go to preschool or any of her usual energy-burning activities due to the chicken pox, so on Thursday we bundled ourselves up and headed to Hab Fab for a good old rummage. K is exceptionally good at finding nice pieces - the skull & cross bones is one of her trophies, along with some gorgeous purple cobwebby net she's keeping for her dressing-up box. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, not least because we followed this with a cream tea and a visit to the aquarium. I'm really looking forward to getting some more made, which I hope will happen this week as several people have already claimed some of these fabrics!The cakes are coming on a storm too; I still have ten or so on back-order but after the initial flurry I'm trying to pace myself so that I don't provoke the flipping RSI again. Thanks to inspiration from a custom order I've decided to replace the mince pies with chocolate cherry-tops after Christmas, so I do need to make some of those up as well.
Thoroughly enjoying Etsy at the moment. I'm talking to the lovely Balsam right now, another of our Goon Squad soap makers who has the most delicious-looking range of lip balms in. I've had a great idea for another kind of Out & About Book and am eagerly awaiting a couple of lip balms to try out with a view to including them in the new OAB. I'll be snatching the postie's hand off at this rate...I love lip balms.
Oooh, Zantie has new scarves in. Oooh. How gorgeous is this recycled scarf. Yum. Ahem.

Etsy Goon Squad
Hurray, I think I'm finally all sorted for the Etsy Goon Squad! Brilliant. Etsy Goon Squad is basically a group of folks who all happen to use the website Something Awful (probably not work safe, just so you know). That's a huge forums site which I often get a chuckle out of; not to mention thoroughly enjoying much of the debate. The users are commonly referred to as goons, hence the name. Anyway, it turns out that there are a large number of crafters around SA and our Etsy Team has been organised to cross-promote each other, particularly to other forum users. It's a fantastic idea, albeit somewhat hard on my wallet because there are some amazing Goon creators out there. Here are some of my favourites:
Savour - soapmaker extraordinare. Oh my god, forget anything else you've ever tried (and I speak as a huge Lush fan) - get your soaps here. I particularly love the Creme Brulee, it's amazing.
ShopRedLeaf - more soap, K and I have tried lots of the little sample sets, which are a great size for kids. We love the Oatmeal, Milk & Honey soaps and the Bubble Bath Dough.
Fed up of cutsey cross-stitch (I am!)? Then try Nrapture for some really unusual designs. Or drool over RepoRebo's amazing handspun yarn - so desperate to get some of this when I have a moment to do my own projects again!
Jellybean Apparel does great maternity tees - I suspect I'll be shopping here for gifts before long!
Zantie does some fab knitting - I adore the emoticon amigurumis (I want a Smith, please). Delighted to see Promosinasnap open again after relocation, what a great way to get freebies to give out. And finally for now, the lovely Rathina does these amazing switchplates - sadly I don't think they'll fit UK lights but they are gorgeous nonetheless.
All of the above I've either shopped with, have been particularly helpful and kind in getting my own shop off the ground, helped me get set up with the Goon Squad, or I am just in love with their work. There are tons of others which I've not had time to explore yet - somebody please take away my purse! I am really proud to be involved with such a talented group of people and I hope you'll give them a look (and some cash!).

Two Weeks From Now...
...I hope to be reeling from a massive number of orders! Well, I can dream, can't I? I am officially opening the shop on 1st November - and actually, I will have quite a few packages to send out because I've taken a lot of pre-orders for the crochet cakes (which are still coming in, good lord...talk about busy). Hence the lack of updates because I've been drowning in yarn. My sewing machine is beginning to lurk menacingly, demanding it's own hour or six of glory.
I've spent a lot of this evening adding things like the banner and the shop announcement to my Etsy shop and creating a page on Facebook. So all is gearing up nicely, really, just need to sort out my Etsy Goon Squad membership properly and I think that's pretty much all of the Internet stuff done.
It does, of course, mean that I've done practically none of my own crafting for weeks on end...I'm pining to do some more of my YoYo blanket cardigan (cos it's awful nippy up here now!), finish K's Starghan, and I have a couple of amigurumi to do before Xmas (Katie, I have NOT forgotten you, promise - you WILL have it well before Xmas!). And a birthday present for another very special little K, if I can wrap my aching fingers round it. But thanks to what is delightfully referred to as "whoring out one's opinion" to market research for Amazon vouchers, I have a couple of new and somewhat random crafting books on the way. Happy times.
