Icing on the cake

I've been looking for a good cupcake pattern for ages, for some reason they're really appealing. I really like these at Little Cotton Rabbits, but since they're knitted I don't have a hope in hell of emulating them. Anyway, I ran across a pattern which uses crochet yesterday and managed to learn something about crocheting around the posts of stitches (I'd done it before but had never realised how useful it was for 3D work!). A few modifications and a little swearing and rummaging for the perfect yarn later, here we have it - my very own cupcake. It's not *quite* right - there are one or two minor adjustments I want to make - but I foresee many of these being made, not least for K's kitchen, props for the "Three Cakes Left" song and potentially any number of Christmas presents for small children (and some not quite so small children). It's not a great shot here because you can't see the cake under the icing, but K is so cute I couldn't resist. I have plans to make a light box later which will hopefully solve my rubbish lighting problem.

I will probably share the pattern for this at some point but I want to see if they'll fly off the virtual shelves of my Etsy shop first...

Lovely photo and a good idea (says this totally non-crafty person).

Thank you! I'm still working on the patterns...can't quite get that flat-topped British fairy cake thing happening just yet, they're all coming out muffin-like. Ho hum!
